LONDON CALLING

Hey Stranger! ... and Hello Autumn!  (how did that happen so fast?)

I've been M.I.A. from the blog-o-sphere this summer... I've been tied up. I've been tying up loose ends at school, as well as, trying my hand at tying sailing knots on the summer Seattle seas.

Good news! GinaMarie was published in Seattle Magazine's October 2011 Issue.  Here's what they had to say, and a <<link>>, too.

SEATTLE MAGAZINE : LONDON CALLING

Gina Moorhead (center) dresses the part of urban sophisticate
Schooled by Vivienne Westwood designers at American InterContinential University in London (trivia interlude: One of her fellow students was none other than Project Runway season-four winner Christian Siriano), the 2011 Seamless in Seattle finalist Gina Moorhead is bringing a taste of British style back across the pond with her prim and polished Gina Marie women’s wear line.
“I want to give women something to wear when they dress up and feel pulled together and sophisticated,” the Belltown-based designer says. “I am also influenced by the Brits’ polished approach, so it’s all very London and urban.”
Moorhead uses English staples like cozy gray, blue and herringbone fabrics as the foundation for her proper frocks and architectural wrap skirts with exposed pockets (collection ranges from $125 to $425).
Also key for the 26-year-old: tactile, touchable fabrics such as faux chinchilla, Italian wool and silk charmeuse, often used in combination on hand-draped Peter Pan–collar blouses, belted jumpers and tailored coats that any duchess wannabe would gladly sport.

Seamless in Seattle Fashion Show

Gina Marie was awarded the Vitamin Water Design Challenge Winner.  Hooray!  I designed a dress for Vitamin Water using my design esthetic and a very unique material requirement: 20 "Revive" labels. To "top" it off, I gave it a "cap" hat!

I wonder what's in store for this dress?
So many interesting campaign options!
Hmmm... like what?
Well... I can see this dress, with a little editing and perfecting, being made in all the Vitamin Water flavors.  What then, you ask...  Wouldn't it be cool to have Vitamin Water "Water Girls" at music events, food festivals, and other events they sponsor passing out free samples? I'd LOVE to see that!
 +PLUS+
If they created a commercial with a fresh up beat song and dressed happy-go-lucky girls in each of the flavors, filmed them doing something related to the appropriate flavor blurb... I'd go gaga. Picture this: A girl waking up in a gray haze after a late night, grabbing and drinking a "revive," and as she drinks it, her world becomes colorful, she smiles, is full of energy, and heads out the door wearing my bottle dress only to meet up with other "bottle" girls and skip and laugh and dance with them until the commercial starts a spin effect that turns the bottle girls into actual bottles and BOOM... Vitamin Water's  logo is on the screen.
eh? eeeeh?  you'll see.  give it a month... those folks at Coke can make it happen. aaaand I'd be more than happy to make the dresses! Wouldn't that be great?

Special Thanks to my peers and instructors at New York Fashion Academy, Terry Horlamus, Dr. Robert Whaley, Camille Goodman, Candace Cantalope, Dana Thomas, Malia Peoples, Kate Mensah, Caitlin Peticlerc, Angela Allen, Tim Campbell, Katy Flynn,  Casey Sagasi, Heather Sanders, Jenny Sims, Sharon Johnson, and Martha Lucas.

Also, a big thanks to my family and friends for all your support!

A wonderful chapter has come to a close.  Being a contestant in the Seattle Magazine "Seamless in Seattle" fashion design competition at the Seattle Art Museum has been a terrific experience.  Thank you to all involved in making this event happen.

...*Christmas Photoshoot*...

In celebration of Jennie+Gina's epic adventure in Seattle together for the past few years, we combined our creative forces to produce a fun and festive Holiday Photoshoot.  Whats better? Well, inviting friends to come along, of course!  We chose our decoration carefully -with creativity and frugality- and transformed my place into quite an exciting sparkles-flying-snow-falling-champagne-poppin'-cookie-making-present-opening-candy-munchin'-photo-opping- place to be.  As a glorious excuse for the festive occasion, we each designed a party skirt and invited the ever-so-lovely Martha and Camille to model.  Marisa and Reena dolled them up and lent their helping hands throughout the evening to make everything smooth.  Greatest thanks goes out to CharBeck, the magnificent, for capturing every moment.
Its beginning to look a lot like Chrismas....
Happy Holidays from us to you!!

SEWN

I'm working on a new project.  I'm designing 2 garments for a new line of commercial patterns called SEWN, by Lorraine Torrence.

I'm finished with the pants, and very very happy with them.  It's a pair of crop harem pants that you can wear high waisted or drop crotch style.  Also- they have a paperbag waist and some pleating details in the front and back.  If, you want- you have the option of slaping a patch pocket on there too.  Options galore.  I'm in the process of doing the dress, and so far it's going well, too.  The dress has a million options in the design as well.  (I think I figured out 36 different ways to make it, but im not entirely sure my math is correct)  You can make a T / tank, a shress (yessss, i said shress) or a dress.  You can have a pocket or not, and you can have no sleeves, short sleeves, or long sleeves.  And the way the design lines are in the front, its slimming and has a vintage look.  Whewwweeee!, right??   I wanted to come up with a couple designs that would look good on lots of body types, were versatile, and would look good out of lots of choices of fabric.  Overall, i'm happy with how its all turning out.

SO WHEN will SEWN launch? We will be bringing them (along with a skirt and jacket by my very talented and good friend Liz and additionally a coat and vest by another designer) to a trade show in Houston in October.  Ill let you know where you can pick them up---  and i think i'll be able to snatch one up for you if you ask me directly.

I'll be the model on the cover of my patterns.  This makes me kinda nervous because I'm not comfortable in front of a camera at first.  I hope i don't look like a fool, and if it turns out that that's how i feel about it, i hope i get over it soon.

Stay Tuned for pics.
